The Strangeness (1985)

A group of spelunkers is trapped in an abandon mine and pursued by a deadly stop-motion model. (At least, I think that's what's going on. The editing is absolutely baffling, but don't worry. It's usually to dark to tell.) This film is a metaphorical critique of western culture's aversion and paranoia surrounding female sexuality. At least, I think that's what they were getting at by giving the monster a vagina for a head. Also, there's a story about eggs.

The Night Flier (1997)

The story follows a reporter named Richard Dees as he attempts to follow and catch up with a murderer who kills his victims in a vampiristic style, and who seemingly flies to each murder scene by plane, a black Skymaster. At one point, Dees finds dirt in the plane, heightening the suspense of this film. The plot culminates in Dees' confrontation with 'The Night Flier' and his own loss of sanity.
Dees' nemesis is a young female reporter who joins the staff at the exploitative magazine "Inside View", where he ranks as senior reporter. She at first is dismissed by him as naive and at best a "Jimmy", as in "Jimmy Olsen", then is actively abused by him. She ultimately survives him and writes about Dees' death, prominently featured on the title page of the magazine "Inside View".

Day Of The Dead (1985)

Some time after the events of Dawn of the Dead, zombies have overrun the entire world. The remaining fragments of the U.S. government and military hide out in fortified enclaves, attempting to find both survivors and a solution to the zombie outbreak. Survivors Sarah, John, McDermott, and Miguel arrive in Fort Myers, Florida, encounter a large horde of the undead, and escape to an underground Army base in the Everglades, where a small group of scientists search for a way to stop or reverse the re-animation process, assisted by a skeleton crew of soldiers. Dr. Logan, the lead scientist – also known as "Frankenstein" due to his experiments – believes that zombies can be trained to become docile, and accordingly has amassed a collection of test subjects, over the objection of base-commander Captain Rhodes. The tension between soldiers and scientists is worsened by dwindling supplies, loss of communication with other survivors, and a lack of progress in research. During a zombie wrangling mission, one of the soldiers is killed after a zombie escapes its harness; whereupon Miguel attempts to kill the creature, but is bitten on the arm, which Sarah amputates to stop the spreading infection. Rhodes then calls off the experiment and demands all specimens to be destroyed...

Tales from the Crypt (1972)

The phenomenon of Tales from the Crypt seems to have no endings, only changes. This successful pun-filled style of presenting ironic horror tales had its beginnings in William Gaine's E.C. comic series. At one time, outlandish E.C. Comics were at the heart of a national furor over the "evils" of comic books, which were thought to lead to moral degeneracy. The big comic-book publishers were frightened into freezing E.C. out of their distribution network, which killed the business. This British movie was based on the Tales from the Crypt series, which spawned several subsequent movies (and many imitators), at least one television series, and a whole new wave of comic books. Released in 1972, this movie has five episodes based on Gaines' stories, each introduced by Sir Ralph Richardson as the eerily cheery Crypt Keeper. His comedic approach to the role was misunderstood at the time, as reviewers expected a more solemn approach to horror. In "All Through the House," Santa Claus is someone to avoid. In "Reflection of Death" it takes some people a while to realize the truth about themselves. In "Poetic Justice" death cannot prevent one man's revenge. The episode "Blind Alley" demonstrates a new use for razor blades. "Wish You Were Here" cautions against taking native artifacts lightly (among other things). Among the stars featured are Peter Cushing, Joan Collins and Patrick Magee. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Don't Go in the House (1979)

Donald Kohler is a young man who, as a child, was severely burned by his sadistic/overbearing mother as a cruel means of discipline and punishment. After years of social estrangement pass, Donald comes home to his mother after an accident at the local incinerator, only to find that his mother died in her sleep. Now released from her possession, Donald's mind teeters around dangerous activities in order to ease his repression; particularly searching out for women (blondes or brunettes, just like his mother) in random mundane locations, bringing them home, hanging them right side up in a personally installed steel plated room and burning them alive with a flamethrower.
